MARISA YEAMAN - Roadmap Heart

They are songs that come from the desert, covered in dust from the highways, tales of long journeys and freedom, as the Australian singer Marisa Yeaman, releases 'Roadmap Heart' her second album after 'Pure Motive', back in 2006.
The scene is set with the opening words, taken from the beautiful '1000 Mile Stare', 'turn your wheels towards the desert'...
Between folk, blues and country, infused with the sounds of classic roots music, Yeaman plays 15 strong and well written tracks, deeply inspired by Americana and its musical traditions.
The inspiration of her songs is not literary fiction, her authenticity comes from her own experiences travelling Australia, India, and South America, and of a childhood spent traveling with her parents throughout Australia.
Life experience that now pours into music in the form of folk ballads, to the catchy pop styling of the opening track '1000 Mile Stare', or the darker moments of folk like 'Desolate' and 'Flying North', to the more spirited songs in the Blues vein such as 'Dirty Hands' and 'Mercy Train'. Sometimes comparisons could be drawn to both Sheryl Crow or Tori Amos, with a balance of emotionally intensive songs such as 'Old Hotel Phone' and 'Bonneville'. No wonder, 'Roadmap Heart' reached No.12 in the European Charts of Americana albums.
It is perhaps a bit long in its fifteen tracks, but the authentic content of the disc delivers, as Yeaman quotes "fifteen songs to enjoy as their favorite book, chapter by chapter."
