MARISA YEAMAN - Roadmap Heart

We do not want to hear you complain of the downfall of music in 2008 absolutely! The splendid Cd's continue to pile up on our desk. It has been said that we no longer get good stuff. Well, however then comes 'Roadmap Heart' the new cd of Marisa Yeaman, the Australian who's voice reminded us of Sharlene Spiteri of Texas on her debut 'Pure Motive' about three years ago.

On this new album Yeaman traverses the years spent between releases. She gives us a place as a travel companion on trips through her homeland Australia, India and Europe. The resulting material is all in all a little darker than that of her debut. Set against an eclectic musical background derived from the genres of Americana, Country, Folk and Blues, Yeaman explores themes of love and pain and the people around her. She does this with great eye to detail, taking nothing away from her poetic gift. And therefore our conclusion is rather obvious: like 'Pure Motive', 'Roadmap Heart' is also an absolute 'must have'.

Ons zal je over het muzikale najaar van 2008 absoluut niet horen klagen! De prachtplaten blijven zich immers aan een echte rotvaart op onze schrijftafel opstapelen. Het is zelfs al zo erg aan het worden, dat we aan sommige goede spullen gewoonweg niet meer toekomen… Wél echter aan “Roadmap Heart”, de nieuwe van Marisa Yeaman, de Australische met de aan Sharleen Spiteri van Texas herinnerende stem, die ons met haar debuut “Pure Motive” zo’n jaar of drie geleden probleemloos wist in te pakken. Op dat nieuwe album maakt Yeaman ons deelachtig aan het door haar de voorbije jaren geleide leven. Ze gunt ons een stek als haar reisgenoot op trips doorheen haar Australische thuisland, Indië en Europa. Het daaruit ontstane materiaal is al bij al een weinig donkerder dan dat van haar debuut. Tegen een eclectische muzikale achtergrond ontleend aan genres als Americana, country, folk en blues verkent Yeaman thema’s als liefde, pijn en de mensen om haar heen. Ze doet dat voortdurend met erg veel oog voor detail, zonder daarbij haar eigen poëtische gaven tekort te doen. En onze conclusie is dan ook eerder voor de hand liggend: net als “Pure Motive” is ook “Roadmap Heart” een absolute “must have”.
