Marisa's
CD Launch - A Triumph!!
"Wow!
what can I say but....SENSATIONAL!!!!!"
It was a very relaxed Marisa Yeaman who took to the stage at the
Cornish Arms Hotel for her debut album 'Pure Motive' launch
on Friday night. From the moment the first note was played until
the last, she managed to enthral her audience. The show emphasised
the depth of Marisa's work from her musicianship, through to her
ability as a top shelf songwriter who has been blessed with an
exceptional voice.
Proving
that her beautiful vocals on 'Pure Motive' are no fluke, Marisa
stepped under a single spotlight with pianist Matthew Vehl as
they performed a spine tingling version of Lonely Puppet.
In the middle of the set they brought the pace down and Marisa
and Andrew Pendlebury sat on stools and played some acoustic numbers
which captivated the audience's attention.
These
were songs such as King Tide and Watching
Fire Burn. Marisa performed Solid Ground,
the witty, tongue in cheek song she wrote about Bob Dylan and
followed it up with a cover version of I’ll Be Your Baby
Tonight. Andrew Pendlebury joined in on backing vocals
on a rendition that had more than a few feet tapping in the house.
They performed I Don’t Want To Cry, a moody new
song, where verses balance very nicely with the solid work of
Barry Stockley on the double bass and Ron Tabuteau's dobro playing
was featured in the beautiful song Holy Water. The
band also performed a wonderfully haunting rendition of Nightskin
with Paul Keane featuring on drums and a very soulful harmonica.
Marcus Goodwin performed back up vocals on Another Day In
Paradise and on You Are The Light. His voice
blended perfectly with Marisa's to offset the songs. Ed Bates
showed us what a proficient pedal steel player he really is with
his work showcased one out, with just Marisa's guitar in the encore
performance of the Lone Justice cover of You Are The Light.
By
the end of the set, the atmosphere was electric and it left the
audience yelling and clapping for more. Marisa Yeaman certainly
showed that she can pull an audience and hold their interest in
what was a very impressive almost two hour long show and a great
precursor to the release of her album 'Pure Motive'.
